The biggest cannibalization is with MPLS and not with the services which SP's are providing. The SP's understand that SD-WAN will be a overlay and Quasi-QoS and thats why they are adopting it. Nothing stops a Enterprise from adopting SD-WAN but the use-case for NFV gets strengthened not weaked by SD-WAN..Vinayhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10671476647937420139noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-17500930.post-40018705485177540782016-03-24T11:29:37.468+00:002016-03-24T11:29:37.468+00:00Dean,
Love your stuff, btw..
I feel there is one ...Dean,
Love your stuff, btw..

I feel there is one small misunderstanding that I find as common.....

Enterprise grade (in other words what is provided by service providers over service provider circuits, fiber or copper) are NOT significantly cheaper than MPLS provided by service providers.

The premise that 'internet access' is cheaper than MPLS is based on a flawed, single premise... Cheaper can typically be provided by 'consumer grade' internet access.. in other words, what you get at your house, etc. These circuits are significantly cheaper than carrier mpls...

We could get into a discussion about how much less quality, but this differentiation needs to be brought out. Consumer grade internet is fine.. I have recommended it for many clients, but it is not an equivalent for enterprise grade internet... quite a few 999s of up time difference, along with less rigorous service management, etc.

Again, someone can make a valid decision using consumer grade, but it needs to be called out as a different animal.Gary Casagrandehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04111586558947223575noreply@blogger.com
